TADA Judge, P D Kode, has said that superstar Salman Khan’s tweets in favour of 1993 blasts condemned convict, Yakub Memon are his ‘opinion’ and that “everyone has a right to his or her opinion as a right to freedom of speech, but the question is how relevant it is.”
But the judge, who sent the younger brother of blast mastermind, Tiger Memon, to the gallows told TOI, “Opinions of those who have knowledge have to be taken seriously and are relevant, not of those who have no knowledge,” thus hinting that the tweets by Khan were irrelevant. The former TADA Judge, who retired as Justice Kode from the Bombay High Court, said, “People are in the habit of making statements with or without having any knowledge.”
The actor’s father, too, sprang in support of his Bajarangi Bhaijaan son and sought to down play the series of 14 tweets all made between 1 am and 2 am early on July 26, Sunday. Salim Khan reportedly said, “Whatever Salman has written is meaningless. Salman is ignorant about the issue and people should not take him seriously.” But take him seriously is what the 1993 blasts case special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam did. Nikam said that the actor ought to withdraw his tweets as they were ‘uncalled for’. “He is trying to undermine the image of the Judiciary,” said Nikam adding, “This is objectionable,” he told TOI on Sunday.

“I expect Salman to withdraw his statements on Twitter,” he added. Salman Khan, whose latest film Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a superhit, tweeted around 2 am that Tiger, not Yakub, must be hanged. He called Yakub, ‘innocent’ and said ‘killing an innocent, would be killing humanity.’ Salman Khan, took jibes at Tiger Memon, the prime absconding accused who is the alleged master mind and older brother of Yakub Memon and said, “Brother is being hanged for Tiger, Aarrre whr is tiger?”

“Get Tiger, hang him, Parade him not his brother,” read another tweet followed by one that said, “Kidhar chupa hai tiger? Hey koi tiger nahi hai hai hai billi aur hum ek billi ko nahi pakad sakteh.” Salman even tweeted a “Request to “Sharif Saab’ to release Tiger from his country. Been wanting to tweet tis fr 3 days n was afraid to do so but it involves a man’s n family. Don’t hang brother…” said the actor in another tweet directing his anger towards the authorities for not catching Tiger Memon yet.

The SC had commuted the death sentence for ten other convicts in the case—mostly planters—but had upheld Yakub’s since it said he was the conspirator and thus played a bigger key role as an archer in the blasts that had killed 257 innocent Mumbaikars and left over 713 injured for life, in Mumbai’s deadliest blasts yet.
