Sony’s PlayStation Pulse Elite is a worthwhile upgrade over the regular Pulse 3D Headset with a handful of changes that further refine the audio experience on offer.

While the two headsets may not look all that different, sporting the same two-tone curvy look as the PS5 itself, the Pulse Elite has longer arms that extend more towards the user’s face to make them more comfortable to wear over long periods. The left arm also has a retractable microphone that offers way better performance than the internal mics of the Pulse 3D, improved even more with AI noise cancellation tech.

The upgraded headset also offers improved connectivity in the form of PlayStation Link compatibility, using proprietary wireless tech in place of Bluetooth for a more reliable wireless connection, though you will need to plug a USB-A dongle into your PS5 to use it. It also comes with a nice wall-hanging charging accessory that’ll charge your headset whenever it’s not in use.

Like its cheaper sibling, the Pulse Elite also offers up 3D Audio, which aims to make your gaming experience more immersive by honing in on the directional qualities of different sounds. This feature works wonderfully in most cases, making it feel like you’re truly a part of any environment you’re exploring. In fact, our reviewer noted that it was “akin to an IMAX experience with the wide, spatially aware soundscape and booming bass”.

3D audio tricks aside, our reviewer noticed a huge uptick in overall audio quality, likely thanks to a combination of the PlayStation Link tech offering lossless audio support, as well as upgraded planar magnetic drivers that are usually found in high-end headphones.

Simply put, if you want a great all-around audio experience on the PS5, Sony’s PlayStation Pulse Elite headset is the way to go.
