The preliminary results of this research project indicate that ACTIVATE can be an effective alternative to medication for many children with ADHD.

Approximately 6.4 million children 4-17 years of age have been diagnosed with ADHD as of 2011, and rates of diagnosis have increased 5 percent annually since 2003. C8 Sciences, creator of a sophisticated cognition program that helps students with ADHD improve critical cognitive skills, announces preliminary research results that show significant improvements in cognitive skills in students with ADHD after using C8’s ACTIVATE program.

ACTIVATE offers integrated computer and physical exercises based on the concept of “cognition cross training” which target and improve the “Cognitive 8”: eight core cognitive capacities necessary for executive function. Developed at Yale University, ACTIVATE is based on decades of research and shaped by data collected from thousands of users.

A series of comprehensive studies conducted at multiple sites during the 2013-15 school years reveal that students using ACTIVATE showed significant improvements in critical cognitive skills. Researchers noted gains in sustained attention, self-control, speed of information processing and working memory.

Many children with ADHD showed reduced behavioral symptoms and improved performance on tests of focused attention, self-control and memory after using ACTIVATE. Based on parent ratings, children were more than twice as likely to have a significant decrease in ADHD symptoms after using ACTIVATE compared to a similar period of time when they did not use ACTIVATE.

“The preliminary results of this research project indicate that ACTIVATE can be an effective alternative to medication for many children with ADHD,” said Dr. Bruce Wexler, co-founder and chief scientist of C8 Sciences, as well as a senior research scientist and professor emeritus of psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine.
