Transforming WearOS Watches into Personal Health Assistants

WearOS smartwatches track dozens of biomarkers daily, yet much of this data remains underutilized in traditional healthcare settings. Empirical Health changes that by integrating wearable technology with expert medical care, providing users with actionable insights and treatment options.

“We’ve built more than just an app—we’ve built an entire medical practice that uses modern technology to improve patient outcomes,” said Raquel Rodriguez, co-founder of Empirical Health.

How Empirical Health Makes a Difference

Empirical Health’s unique approach enables users to gain meaningful insights into their health through real-time data analysis and expert medical guidance. Here’s how it’s making an impact:

  • Long COVID & POTS Diagnosis: Traditional tilt-table tests cost an average of $1,932. Empirical Health allows users to conduct an equivalent test at home for free using their smartwatch, guided by a doctor, alongside blood test results.
  • Sleep Apnea Detection: If a user’s watch detects potential signs of sleep apnea—either through Samsung’s new algorithm or low deep/REM sleep—Empirical Health doctors can order an FDA-cleared, at-home sleep apnea test covered by insurance.
  • Heart Health Optimization: A decrease of 10 bpm in resting heart rate lowers mortality risk by 10-20%. Empirical Health combines wearable data, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels to create personalized care plans aimed at reducing heart disease risk.

Available Nationwide, Covered by Insurance

Empirical Health is available in over 30 U.S. states, covering a population of 200 million. Most major health insurance providers cover the medical services offered through the platform, making advanced digital healthcare more accessible than ever.

Key Health Insights

Empirical Health leverages wearable technology to surface valuable health insights, including:

  • The average person gets just 49 minutes of deep sleep per night.
  • Heart rate variability (HRV) decreases from an average of 51ms (ages 18-35) to 28ms (ages 65+).
  • A 1 mL/kg/min increase in VO2 max reduces the risk of death by 9%.

How It Works

Empirical Health seamlessly integrates with Android Health Connect and Fitbit APIs, ensuring compatibility with Samsung Galaxy Watches, Google Pixel Watches, Fitbits, and other WearOS devices. The app features four primary tabs:

  • Today: View high-resolution heart rate, sleep, symptom, and workout data daily.
  • Metrics: Analyze over 40 biomarkers from wearable and blood test results.
  • Chat: Speak directly with a real doctor (available in eligible locations).
  • Goals: Develop a personalized health plan covering testing, nutrition, exercise, and medication—including a specialized Long COVID and POTS exercise plan based on the CHOP protocol.
